Why Small Businesses Matter More Than Ever

At our winery, community has always mattered. That’s one of the reasons we’re excited to host more markets and events this year. Yes, the goal is to bring people together and introduce new visitors to our little corner of Jones County—but it’s also about something bigger: supporting small businesses.

Small businesses are the backbone of America.

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, there are approximately 36.2 million small businesses in the United States, making up 99.9% of all U.S. businesses. Small businesses also employ over 62 million Americans and are responsible for nearly 89% of new job growth in recent years.

That’s an incredible number when you really stop and think about it.

Behind every small business is a person, a family, a dream, and usually a whole lot of hard work. Whether it’s a local bakery, a handmade craft vendor, a boutique, a food truck, or a family winery, small businesses invest directly back into their communities. We sponsor local events, support schools and nonprofits, hire local people, and create places where people gather.

That’s why our upcoming markets are important to us.

We want to create opportunities for other small businesses to be seen and supported. When someone visits a market at the winery, they may come for a glass of wine, but they also discover local artists, makers, bakers, and entrepreneurs. Every purchase—big or small—helps someone continue doing what they love.

Supporting small business isn’t just about shopping local. It’s about building relationships and strengthening communities.

In a world where it’s easy to click a button and order from a giant corporation, choosing to support a local business makes a real impact. It helps families stay afloat, keeps small towns thriving, and preserves the unique character of our communities.

We truly believe small businesses do better when we support each other instead of competing against one another. There’s room for all of us to succeed when we work together, collaborate, and encourage people to shop local first.

So this year, we hope you’ll join us not just for wine, music, and beautiful views—but also to meet the incredible small business owners who make our community special.

Because when small businesses thrive, communities thrive too.
